Tomato Update

Fried Green tomato’s….Need I say more?

The Demo Garden Blog

Our tomatoes are generally looking great this year! After 2 years of tomato heartache and heartbreak (heat one year, herbicide injury and heat the next), we finally have some great looking tomatoes again. We’re starting to see a touch of Early Blight here and there, and there’s also a little bit of residual herbicide damage that is just now showing up. Most of the plants have fruit set and are growing like weeds! We haven’t fertilized at all, other than a little bit of a liquid starter fertilizer at planting and working in some compost this spring.

The ‘Taxi’ tomato plant (orange fruit) is the early leader as far as fruit set. I’m withholding judgement until they ripen without excessive cracking, however.

Farming Meeting

My Garden this year is part raised, part regular garden…….everything blooming…..veggies soon!!!!

Chateau Clingman

Saturday was interesting, the good part was we had a meeting of the Farmers at our House Garden.

We have 4 raised beds that we grow Veggies in this year, Potatoes, Tomatoes and Root Crops.

Our Hispanic Neighbors came down to watch my wife work in the Garden, as happens they talked with each other and with my wife (Note my wife does not speak Spanish) with hand gestures  and bits of English, they shared Crop advice, what kinds of Farms they grew up/work on in Mexico and what they do here. Barb was very impressed with one of the stories of how one guy came to the USA by raising Pigs and would like to have a Pig farm here in time.

Someone brought a Radio and turned Music on. In about an hour most of the Hispanics were at e Garden with everyone having a good time.

Now a member of the German Green Party has proved that point. In an op-ed in yesterdays New York Times, Malte Spitz declares:

“Given our history, we Germans are not willing to trade in our liberty for potentially better security. Germans have experienced first hand what happens when the government knows too much about someone….  We have not forgotten what happens when secret police or intelligence agencies disregard privacy.”

Anyone who doubts the dangers inherrent in what the U.S. intelligence agencies are doing should read Spitz’s full article and contemplate how the world has…
