Things that go Bump- in the Night

Spiffy

As time was being a bitch and crawled on, just a few more hours to my holidays; I had decided to watch a movie before my Final Paper (exam). And I ended up watching Dark Skies.

Yeap, up there’s the poster. Seems so epic-ly mysterious. The film isn’t really stellar though; plot holes abound and some sound problems ( the ‘Father’ had really bass-y voice,  maybe it were just those speakers). It still scared the shit out of me, but quite weirdly, after a day.
Hint Hint –> It’s about those aliens. Specifically Gray ones. n( yup, the same ones you watched on Discovery Channel). I really don’t know, but there’s something about them that spokes me.
I really out of the phase, when ghosts ( and thins alike ) scared me. But if i see something similar to that alien face. BAM! Instant Heart-rate increase.
Perhaps, it has to…

Computer, tell me a joke

Captain..she’s going to Blow

Stefan Bill

I just remembered this story the other day & thought I’d share. I swear, this really happened.

Back in the mid-90’s when I had just gotten the latest & greatest version of System 7 installed on my Mac, I was playing with a new feature called Speakable Items. The OS came with a folder of AppleScript scripts that would listen for your commands and perform actions, sometimes even speaking back to you. This was a technology we had been waiting for since first seeing it in Star Trek.

Of course, these scripts were very basic–they could tell you the time, launch an application, or tell you a knock-knock joke. We weren’t going to create the process to manufacture transparent aluminum, but still, it was an exciting time–the dawn of verbal human-computer interaction. Exciting!

The computer could listen at all times for one of these commands (very CPU intensive), or…

Zombies and Heat

Escaping Whitnae

The HeatFrom the first time I saw the preview I couldn’t wait to see The Heat – a cop “buddy” comedy with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, where do I get in line? Unfortunately, I didn’t think the movie was any better than the preview. There is always a risk in showing all the best scenes in a preview, but even that didn’t exactly happen here, some of the funniest scenes in the preview were either cut out of the movie or changed in the final cut. Let me be clear, this was a funny movie and I enjoyed myself, but (and this was a big deal for me) I didn’t laugh out loud much.

The story was nothing new, but not overly predictable. Both Sandra & Melissa did a good job with their characters (I’m guessing anytime spent on this set was fun). I found the attempt at making…

It’s like walking on icing sugar!

Poetry Box

When I can I will keep a poetry diary of my mini holiday. In keeping with the week’s competition I will try and include food and at least one simile. This is a true story!

It is nice to be in the beautiful south!

I was going to cycle the Queenstown trail today but will rest my bruise and wander Queenstiwn with my girls instead.

TheRemarkables

It’s like walking on icing sugar
polka dot clouds in the sky
sun shining but it’s the four
layers that keep me warm.

I am zigzagging down hill
crisp mountain air sweet
on my cheeks, when
slam smash thump

a snowboarder
tackles me to the snow
his snowboard slamming
into my leg at break leg speed.

The bag of snow bites
into my bruise.
The tomato soup,
hot spicy creamy,
goes down my throat
like exploding pockets
of sunshine.

Modern Philosopher Mailbag: Milestones, Monsters, and Merriment

DruG TaKe OuT The FuNNiEsT PeOpLe….WhAT A LoSS TO US

The Return of the Modern Philosopher

BlutoI’m bored, so let’s randomly pick another letter from the mailbag to answer…

Dear Modern Philosopher,

I recently noticed that you posted your 500th article.  Congratulations!  That’s a lot of Deep Thoughts in 8 months.  I do enjoy your blog and hope that you plan to keep on posting.

I just thought it was weird that for such a milestone post you chose to write about Santa Claus and the possibility that you might take over the operation at The North Pole now that he’s retired.  How come you didn’t write about Zombies, The Devil, Gary the Gargoyle, Aliens, that crazy drunk Leprechaun, or Mayor McCheese?  Any of those would’ve been much more representative of Maine than Santa Claus.

Just curious.  Still love the blog.  Would it be possible to get an autographed toga?

Best wishes!

A Really Big Fan

500Dear RBF,

Thank you for the letter.  It’s always nice…

Troll of the Week: “Alice”

ThiS IS MY NoRMaL LooK……

Hall of Beorn

As anyone who runs a blog can tell you, there is quite a bit of comment spam that comes in on a regular basis. Fortunately, the WordPress system has built-in spam blocking that is about 99% accurate at filtering out the noise. Even so, from time to time I go into the spam folder and double-check, just to make sure that no one’s comments are accidentally getting flagged. Most often, these “comments” are just a bunch of links to buy replica watches, SEO optimization for my site (because, you know, my blog should come up #3 in the results when you search for “Godless Orc-Slayer”) and Viagra. I must admit to being especially perplexed by this last group of links. I don’t know if Middle-Earth really needs a bear with an erection that lasts more than 4 hours.

In any case, must of the comments are just meaningless gibberish, easily…

Is the Movie Industry close to an Implosion?

I Hope So ,I Have Some Screen Plays For You

you can observe a lot just by watching

Steven Spielberg George Lucas

Earlier this week Steven Spielberg and George Lucas spoke at the opening of a new media centre at the University of Southern California. While speaking to students at USC, Spielberg made the following claim:

There’s going to be an implosion where three or four or maybe even a half-dozen megabudget movies are going to go crashing into the ground, and that’s going to change the paradigm

They went on to say:

I think eventually the Lincolns will go away and they’re going to be on television,” Lucas said. “As mine almost was,” Spielberg interjected. “This close — ask HBO — this close.”

“We’re talking Lincoln and Red Tails — we barely got them into theaters. You’re talking about Steven Spielberg and George Lucas can’t get their movie into a theater,” Lucas said.

Whilst reading this my irony meter went into overdrive. Let me explain why.

Let us take a trip…
